About Vision Source of Lewis County

Your vision is our passion.

The idea for Vision Source of Lewis County began in the Fall of 2018 when the county reached out to Primary Eyecare about bringing eye care back to Lewis County. The county had been without eye care since the retirement of Dr. Higginbotham, the local optometrist, some 8 years prior.

In January 2019, Primary Eyecare was approached by 2 organizations, Vision Source and 20/20NOW, and asked to build a rural eye care model using telemedicine to be taken nationwide. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to combine the two ideas and bring a much needed service back to the area.

We are proud to say that Hohenwald, TN and Villa Rica, GA were chosen as the two communities to build the private practice TELE-OPTOMETRY models that will be used in the future across the country.

Telemedicine (teleoptometry) is the use of telecommunication and information technology to provide clinical healthcare from a distance. It has been used to overcome the distance barriers between patients and doctors and used to improve access to medical services that would not be consistently available in rural communities. Doctors and patients can communicate and share information in real time from one computer screen to another as well as see, capture, and analyze medical data from devices in a far away location from the doctor. Many healthcare organizations and insurance companies are now adopting telemedicine opportunities. The VA medical system, the nation’s largest healthcare provider has now embraced telemedicine. The VA realizes that many veterans in rural areas are underserved and sees telemedicine as a way to better serve those areas.

By using telemedicine/teleoptometry in Lewis County, Vision Source of Lewis County believes that it can meet the needs and demands of the community and allied healthcare professionals without patients having to travel great distances to do so.

As a patient, you can expect friendly and attentive care from our experienced team of eye care professionals. We leverage advanced diagnostic technology to provide modern eye care services, including comprehensive eye exams, vision correction, and more.

Schedule an appointment with an experienced eye care provider at our Hohenwald optometrist office and give your vision the level of care and attention it deserves.
